"Kill Star is straight ahead, kick you in the ass, rock 'n' roll at its best. In the style of legendary Motorhead, "Rat Trap Baby" is dark, gritty and proof positive that rock ain't dead, it's alive and well in Kill Star!" -Rich Embury (CEO of Pure Rock Radio)
A sound that slaps you in the face and drives it home from the first listen. Heavy and melodic guitar driven hard rock. Kill Star released their debut album "THRESHOLD" 2011. The album will mark their stain in the music world and showcase them as a significant new talent. This project has a raw, heavy and powerful sound that begs to be experienced live!
*These guys are not new to the music industry. “I played in a few bands with Brent (Andres-Guitar) starting when I was 16. We played for years together. Did all the local circuit as well as some North American tours. Ive known Purple (Vocals) almost as long. His band used to do a lot of shows with another band I was in.” says bassist, Derek Dufresne.
The members all have extensive live, studio, road and video experience. They have shared the stage with numerous major label recording acts like Quiet Riot, I Mother Earth, Econoline Crush, Sass Jordan.. to name a few
Dufresne moved to Victoria, BC in 1999 and pursued a career as a tattoo artist. Over the years he has established himself as an international award winning tattoo artist with dozens of magazine feature articles and hundreds of published tattoo photos.
But his first love was always music. “I have a ton of music written and recorded in my home studio. After reconnecting with Brent and Purple in the summer of 2010, I started emailing tracks to them and they would write and add guitar and vocals to the songs and send them back and I would mix and produce them.”
The project was originally conceived as a writing project, but after months of writing and posting music online (facebook etc..) they started to build up a strong fan base eager for more and for live shows. So they recruited another guitar player and drummer in order to give the people what they wanted and start playing a few club shows.
They played their first live show together in November 2010, without so much as a single rehearsal under their belts and won Fist place in a Supernova sponsored "Battle of the Bands"!
The songs “Rat Trap Baby”, “Only Love Remains”, “See You”, and “Supposed To Be” have been in rotation on numerous internet radio stations since November 2010.
Debut full length album "THRESHOLD" was released June 2011 and is available as CD and download everywhere you buy digital music.
In October, 2014 Kill Star's sophomore album titled "Love Suicide Machine" was released, again on physical CD and digital download. This album is a lot more diverse than its predecessor. Featuring numerous guest musicians contributing to the record. One thing that remains is the undeniably powerful songwriting team of Derek D and Purple. The new album is a huge growth for the band.
